Day 1

Arrival to St. Petersburg. Meeting with the guide.

Sightseeing tour of St. Petersburg with guide. During the tour through the city you will become acquainted with the architecture, history and present day life of the former capital of Imperial Russia, and the history of the Romanov dynasty. Among the rich panoply of sights to be enjoyed will be Palace Square with the Winter Palace, the Square of Arts with the Russian museum, the Smolny Convent, the famous Nevsky Avenue, the Summer Garden and the Field of Mars. You will enjoy the classical ensemble of Senate Square with its famous "Bronze Horseman", St.Isaac's Cathedral and the Senate and the Synod buildings, the tip of the Basil's island, the Peter and Paul's Fortress, the University, the cathedral's domes, the spire of the Admiralty, and many other architectural monuments, bridges and embankments of the "Palmira of the North". Walk Excursion to Peter & Paul Fortress which was founded by Peter the Great in 1703: this walking tour (inside fortress) includes a visit to Peter and Paul Cathedral and the burial place of Russian Emperors. Transfer to the hotel. Check-in.

Bus excursion with guide to Tsarskoye Selo (25 km away from St. Petersburg), the residence of Peter the Great’s wife Catherine I, as well as the palace where famous Russian poet Pushkin studied and won his first popularity. For two centuries, Tzarskoye Selo was considered the imperial summer residence. Its construction was of state significance and took many years with the participation of government agencies. After the October Revolution the palace and park ensemble was turned into a museum, and the best houses in the town were taken over by educational and health institutions. So, in 1918 the town was re-named Detskoje Selo. In 1937, on the 100-year anniversary of the tragic death of poet Alexander Pushkin, the town received its present name. From 1811 to 1843 the Tzarskoje Selo Imperial Lyceum, where Pushkin obtained his education, was located here. In January of 1983 the Council of Ministers of the Russian Federation issued a decree giving the palaces and parks of Pushkin the status of a reserve, which in 1990 was called the Tzarskoje Selo State Museum Reserve. Visiting the Catherine Palace and the world famous Amber Room. Returning to the city.

Breakfast in the hotel. After breakfast you will enjoy a visit to the Hermitage Museum (located in the Tsar’s Winter Palace) one of the world’s largest and most valuable art collections. The State Hermitage occupies six magnificent buildings situated along the embankment of the River Neva, right in the heart of St Petersburg. The leading role in this unique architectural ensemble is played by the Winter Palace, the residence of the Russian tsars that was built to the design of Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1754-62. This ensemble, formed in the 18th and 19th centuries, is extended by the eastern wing of the General Staff building, the Menshikov Palace and the recently constructed Repository. Put together throughout two centuries and a half, the Hermitage collections of works of art (over 3,000,000 items) present the development of the world culture and art from the Stone Age to the 20th century. Excursion to St. Isaac Cathedral which is one of the greatest cathedrals in the world.

Breakfast in hotel. Transfer to the city centre. Walking excursion across historical places of St. Petersburg with guide. Visiting the “Kazan Cathedral” and the “Church of Savior on Blood” built in the old Russian style. The temple of Christ Revival called in people "Church of Savoir on Blood" was erected on Catharine channel in that place where I March, 1881 explosion of a bomb had been fatally wounded Emperor Alexander II. The temple "in truly Russian taste" as that was wished by Emperor Alexander III, the son of mudded Emperor was under construction. The temple was under construction 24 years, with 1883 for 1907, has been consecrated on August, 19th, 1907. Temple - the present monument of mosaic art of Russia. Free time in St. Petersburg.
